Frequently Asked Questions

  • A spray tan works by using a solution that contains an active ingredient called dihydroxyacetone (DHA). DHA reacts with the amino acids in the outer layer of your skin to produce a temporary darkening effect without the use of UV radiation - which makes it safer for your skin. The tanning solution is applied to your skin with a fine mist and given the proper time and care to develop, will result in a natural tan. The intensity of the color depends on the concentration of the DHA as well as the clients skin type. The color will fade over the course of 7-10 days through natural skin exfoliation.

  • Standard and rapid tans will offer the same color results and longevity, the difference between the two is in the rinse times.

Standard formula rinse: between 8-12 hours from application time

Rapid formula rinse: between 2-4 hours from application time.

*You should expect to notice that your color is not very visible post rinse. This is normal.

Your tan will continue to develop and darken over the next 24 hours when color reaches it’s full potential.

  • We ask that you provide a space that can accommodate a 4×4×7 tent that offers adequate lighting and a nearby outlet. A non-carpeted room with good air circulation is preferred.

Make sure you follow all pre care instructions provided to you via email upon booking.

  • We suggest scheduling your tan at least two days before any major events.

If you’re leaving for a vacation, one day before will suffice.

  • Orange? We don’t know her ;)

  • Your tan should last on average about 7-10 days. This is mainly dependent on the client following preparation and maintenance instructions. If you take care of your tan, it’ll take care of you and fade evenly.

Prep:

    • Ensure all other body care is completed - A spray tan should be the last beauty treatment completed. Spa treatments/facials/massage oils/mani/pedicure soaks/lotions/oil products will create a barrier on the skin that may not fully be removed and will interfere with the application of your tan.

    • Wax/Shave any unwanted body hair - waxing should be completed at the very least 24 hours prior to tanning. Shaving can be completed 24 hours before, preferably with a razor without a moisture strip.

    • Exfoliate entire body - thoroughly using quality exfoliation products (nothing oil based) is a key part in ensuring even application of your tan.

    • Avoid using bar soaps or cream based body washes - Gel based body wash is best. Any bar soaps and cream washes (for example, Dove) will leave a residue on your skin that will not allow your tan to penetrate to your skin. This could possibly leave streaks.

    • Wash/Condition your hair - do not use your rinse time as an opportunity to wash your hair. Shampoo and conditioner that will inevitably run down your body can cause streaks in your tan and hinder even development.

    • Shower - showering should be completed at least four hours prior to tanning to allow your pH levels to neutralize. Showering too close to your tan can leave pores open which will absorb the solution and make application uneven.

    • Do not apply any oils, lotions, deodorant, makeup, or perfumes - all can leave a barrier on the skin that will keep the tan from penetrating to the skin. We understand your life cannot completely revolve around your tan - if you have any of these products on, use Micellar wipes to remove (not Neutrogena Makeup Wipes- they are oily).

Be especially careful with deodorant - leftover deodorants can cause the area to turn green.

    • Wear dark, loose-fitting clothing with open toed sandals - Any tight clothing can result in unwanted lines due to friction. The bronzer in the solution may transfer to your belongings. If transfer does happen, it should come out in the wash.

Post tan:

  • Do not get wet or sweat until your rinse time - this can cause streaks, dots, sprinkles, etc. on your tan. If it happens, lightly buff and blend the solution with a fluffy makeup brush in circular motions.

    Do not touch your tan

  • Rinse in lukewarm water with no soap - simply let the water run down your body, using just your hand if you have to. You will see most of the bronzer wash down the drain. Your tan is not gone! This is normal

Rinse at your designated time - Your tan may develop too light or too dark if you do not rinse at your designated time. Going past your rinse time doesn’t mean better results.

  • Moisturize - tans take about 24 hours to fully develop and this is when you should moisturize. It is best to moisturize with a lotion that is free of artificial fragrance or mineral oil - these solutions will strip your tan and make it fade quicker.
